Cambodia and Germany Reaffirm Development Partnership at Hamburg Conference

PHNOM PENH, July 2, 2026 – Senior Minister Chhieng Yanara has represented Cambodia at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) 2026, where he held talks with German officials and reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment to sustainable development and multilateral cooperation.

The conference, held on June 29-30 in Hamburg under the theme "The Power of Cooperation: Driving Progress Together," was officially opened by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. It brought together high-level representatives from governments, international organisations, the private sector, and civil society to advance dialogue and shared commitments toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Discussions were structured around three key pillars: resilient economies and technology; risk and conflict; and the future of multilateralism and governance—all areas that closely align with Cambodia's national development priorities.

On the sidelines, H.E. Chhieng Yanara met with H.E. Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The two sides exchanged views on bilateral development cooperation and preparations for the upcoming Cambodia-Germany Governmental Consultations, scheduled for November 2026. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their long-standing partnership and enhancing development effectiveness.

Cambodia's participation in the conference underscored the Royal Government's dedication to advancing the SDGs through inclusive partnerships and mutual accountability, while strengthening its engagement in regional and global cooperation frameworks.
