Mondulkiri's Border Crossings Key to Cambodia-Vietnam Trade as Samdech Techo Calls for Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, July 7, 2026 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, has called for strengthened border cooperation between Mondulkiri province and Vietnam to boost trade and economic development between the two countries.

Speaking during his visit to Mondulkiri province on July 7, Samdech Techo Hun Sen instructed local authorities to enhance cross-border cooperation with Vietnam to facilitate trade and economic growth. The province, located in the northeast approximately 382 kilometres from Phnom Penh, serves as a strategic gateway for bilateral trade with Vietnam.

Mondulkiri currently has three operational bilateral border crossings: Lapakhe in Keo Seima district, Dak Dam in O'Raing district, and Nam Lear in Pechr Chenda district. A fourth crossing at Chimiat in Koh Nhek district is not yet operational.

The Senate President's call for enhanced border cooperation comes as Mondulkiri continues to develop its agricultural and agro-industrial sectors, with approximately 123,685 hectares of production generating about 524,357 tonnes of produce. The province's rubber plantations cover 43,912 hectares, while cashew plantations span 11,165 hectares.

The visit marks the 17th mission and 20th province visited by Samdech Techo Hun Sen as part of his ongoing engagement with local authorities across the Kingdom.
