UN Chief Urges U.S., Israel, and Iran to De-escalate Middle East Conflict

NEW YORK — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an urgent end to escalating hostilities in the Middle East, warning of the risk of the conflict spiraling out of control.

Addressing the United States and Israel, Guterres said it is “high time” to end the war, citing the growing toll on civilians and the danger of wider instability.

He also directed a strong message to Iran, urging it to halt attacks on neighboring countries, noting that they are not parties to the conflict.

The UN chief further warned that the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz is causing widespread global impact, affecting people far beyond the region who are not involved in the conflict.

Guterres emphasized that continued escalation risks deepening humanitarian suffering and disrupting global stability.
