Malaysia and Cambodia Strengthen Defence Ties as Malaysian Chief Visits Win-Win Memorial

SIEM REAP, July 9, 2026 – Malaysia and Cambodia have taken another step forward in their defence partnership, as Malaysia's Chief of Defence Force, General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Malek Razak bin Sulaiman, arrived in Cambodia for a four-day official and friendly visit aimed at deepening military cooperation and regional security collaboration.

The visit, which runs from July 8 to 11, marks the general's first official trip abroad since his recent appointment as Malaysia's top military commander. It reflects the growing trust and shared commitment between the two nations to work together on defence and security matters.

According to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, the visit has three core objectives: strengthening military cooperation and friendship between the two armed forces, serving as an official introduction following the general's new appointment, and visiting Malaysian troops currently serving as ASEAN observers in Cambodia.

On July 9, the delegation toured the historic Win-Win Memorial in Phnom Penh, where they received a detailed briefing from the Sena Techo Unit on Cambodia's successful transition from decades of civil war to lasting peace under the "Win-Win Policy" initiated by Samdech Techo Hun Sen. The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange experiences and reaffirm their shared commitment to peace and stability in the region.

The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral military relations and enhance coordination in maintaining regional peace and security.
