Thai Leftover Cluster-Bomb Has Taken Another Life in Banteay Meanchey
BANTEAY MEANCHEY — March 19, 2026: A 42-year-old man was killed and a 47-year-old man was seriously injured in an explosion caused by a cluster bomb, identified as unexploded ordnance left from past conflict involving Thai military munitions, according to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC).
The incident occurred in Boeng Snao village, Sla Kram commune, Svay Chek district. Based on evidence found at the scene, CMAC confirmed that the device was an M46 submunition from a 155mm NR269 projectile.
Authorities said the blast underscores the ongoing danger posed by unexploded cluster munitions, which continue to endanger civilians in affected areas long after conflicts have ended.
CMAC urged the public to remain extremely cautious and strictly avoid touching or approaching any unexploded ordnance or suspicious objects, and to report such findings immediately to CMAC forces or local authorities for safe handling and disposal.
