'Life and Death at Preah Vihear' Documentary to Be Screened on Saturday with Free Entry

PHNOM PENH, July 10, 2026 – The Bophana Center will screen the documentary "Life and Death at Preah Vihear" on Saturday, July 11, at 5:00 pm, offering free entry to the public .

Directed by David A. Feingold, the 51-minute film explores the complex conflict between Cambodia and Thailand over the Preah Vihear temple, a dispute rooted in colonial-era mapping and competing historical claims . Filmed over five years in both countries, the documentary examines how an 11th-century Hindu temple became a focal point of modern political and cultural tensions .

Beyond the border dispute, the film reveals the broader impact of colonial boundaries on Southeast Asia and highlights internal political divisions within Thailand, including the "Red Shirt" and "Yellow Shirt" movements . Through interviews with policymakers, scholars, and ordinary citizens on both sides of the border, the documentary offers a deeper understanding of nationalism, identity, and the enduring influence of history on present-day conflicts .

The screening is part of the Cine-Saturday programme, which takes place every Saturday at 5:00 pm at the Bophana Center . The project is implemented with financial support from France through the Agence Française de Développement, the Henry Luce Foundation, the Rei Foundation Limited, and Friends of Bophana through Myriad USA.
