PHNOM PENH, July 13, 2026 – France has pledged to deepen economic and trade cooperation with Cambodia following a two-day official visit by French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness Nicolas Forissier.

During his visit, Forissier held strategic meetings with key Cambodian ministers, including Commerce Minister Cham Nimul, Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak, and Health Minister Chheang Ra, focusing on trade diversification, sustainable infrastructure, energy transition, and healthcare improvement.

Bilateral trade reached US$568 million in 2025, up 11.7 percent from 2024, with Cambodian exports to France totalling US$447 million, an increase of 12.5 percent. French companies, numbering over 200 in Cambodia, play a key role in transport, energy, finance, health, tourism, and construction.

Discussions included priority projects such as an 800-megawatt hydropower project and a waste-to-energy initiative. Forissier also attended the signing of a service agreement for a feasibility study on a modern international agro-food wholesale market in Phnom Penh.

The visit also laid groundwork for French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Cambodia in November for the 20th Francophonie Summit, which Cambodia will host.
