Japan Provides US$119 Million Loan for New Sihanoukville Container Terminal
PHNOM PENH, July 13, 2026 – Japan has extended a concessional loan of JPY 17.776 billion (approximately US$119 million) to Cambodia for the development of a new container terminal at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.
The Exchange of Notes and related documents were signed on the afternoon of July 13 by H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and H.E. UENO Atsushi, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister's official social media, the concessional loan will finance the second package of the new container terminal development project at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.
The project aims to expand the port's capacity, enhance Cambodia's maritime connectivity, and support the Kingdom's growing trade and economic development. The funding reflects Japan's continued commitment to supporting Cambodia's infrastructure development.
