Cambodia Requires Drivers Aged 15 and Above for Certain Vehicles Under New Rules
PHNOM PENH — Authorities in Cambodia have outlined new requirements for drivers of all types of motor vehicles, setting clear conditions on licensing and minimum age.
Under the regulations, drivers operating vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, trailers, and tricycles are required to hold a valid driving license.
A license is mandatory for vehicles with an engine capacity above 125cc or electric vehicles with a power output exceeding 11 kilowatts.
For smaller vehicles—those with an engine capacity of 125cc or less, or electric vehicles with 11 kilowatts or below—a driving license is not required. However, drivers must be at least 15 years old and possess a valid Cambodian identity card or other recognized identification.
The rules are intended to improve road safety and ensure that all drivers meet minimum standards before operating vehicles on public roads.
