Cambodia's Youngest Coders: 9-Year-Old Girls Shine at National Game Jam

PHNOM PENH, July 17, 2026 – A group of nine-year-old girls from Siem Reap province has proven that Cambodia's digital future is in safe hands, as they showcased their coding and game development skills at the National Game Jam competition.

The "Girl Digital" team from Kesoraram Primary School developed their first games through the "Game Changers Coalition," a UNICEF-supported initiative implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the Department of Digital Transformation. The programme equips children with essential digital and STEAM skills.

Their participation in the National Game Jam in December 2025 earned them recognition and encouragement awards, a remarkable achievement for such young learners.

On International Youth Skills Day, the ministry highlighted the importance of providing children with the right opportunities, guidance, and tools to build skills for the future. The girls' success serves as an inspiring example of what Cambodian youth can achieve when given the chance.
