Cambodia’s Nokor Sankranta Festival to Honor Frontline Troops, Support Displaced Citizens
Phnom Penh, March 20, 2026 — Cambodia’s upcoming traditional New Year celebrations, “Nokor Sankranta,” will be dedicated to honoring frontline soldiers and supporting citizens displaced by ongoing border tensions, according to Royal Government officials on Friday.
Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Hun Many, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), said the festivities are designed to strengthen national solidarity. He noted that special programs will be organized for displaced people to ensure those on the front lines feel the nation’s support.
“We want to demonstrate that those of us in the rear never forget our brothers and sisters at the front,” H.E. Hun Many said.
As part of the celebrations, the UYFC has launched a campaign titled “10,000 Krama (Scarves) and Greeting Cards for Frontline Heroes,” allowing citizens to express gratitude to armed forces stationed along the border. Proceeds from festival souvenirs will be donated to support troops and displaced families, according to officials.
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet previously emphasized that this year’s celebrations reflect both cultural continuity and national resilience, noting that cultural and economic activities must continue despite border tensions.
Royal Government Spokesperson H.E. Pen Bona reaffirmed Cambodia’s position during a press briefing, stressing the country’s commitment to a peaceful resolution based on international law and existing agreements.
He said Cambodia strictly adheres to the ceasefire and the Joint Statement of Dec. 27, 2025, and will not accept any border changes resulting from the use of force.
The Nokor Sankranta festival, scheduled from April 14 to 19 in Phnom Penh, will focus on promoting Khmer cultural heritage through traditional performances and religious ceremonies, alongside humanitarian support for displaced residents.
