PM Hun Manet Urges Greater U.S.-China Cooperation to Combat Online Scams

PHNOM PENH, July 21, 2026 — Prime Minister Hun Manet has called for stronger cooperation between the United States and China to combat transnational online scam networks, saying such crimes transcend geopolitical rivalries and require coordinated international action.

In an interview with Bloomberg Television, Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia works with both Washington and Beijing in tackling cyber-enabled crimes and will continue to promote multilateral cooperation.

The Prime Minister said Cambodia will host an international conference on online scam operations, with participation expected from Chinese authorities and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

He said he had invited FBI Director Kash Patel, who indicated that a senior FBI delegation would attend the conference.

"These are common issues that go well beyond geopolitics," the Prime Minister said. "Criminal networks can target both the United States and China at the same time. They exploit any opportunity for financial gain."

He added that cooperation against transnational crime should not become "a hostage to geopolitics," stressing that international law enforcement collaboration remains in the interest of all countries.
