Australia and Cambodia Join Hands to Strengthen Food Security and Local Production

PHNOM PENH, July 26, 2026 – Australia and Cambodia are working together to expand domestic food production, reducing reliance on imports and building more resilient food systems across the Kingdom.

Cambodia has long relied on imports for many cooking essentials, from fresh milk and instant noodles to seasonings and sauces. Through its partnership with LEANG LENG Fish Sauce, Australia is helping establish new sauce processing facilities, creating a larger market for local green mussels—a key ingredient in food sauces.

The initiative is expected to increase demand for green mussels from 72 tonnes to over 950 tonnes per year, supporting the incomes of at least 400 households in the Peam Krosoap fishing community.

Australia is also connecting Cambodian-made products with major distributors to help them reach more supermarket shelves across the country.

Through this collaboration, both nations are working side by side to build a more self-reliant food system, create jobs, support rural livelihoods, and drive a more resilient economy.
