Cambodia and Brazil Eye Deeper Cooperation as First Brazilian Ambassador Presents Credentials

PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 – Cambodia and Brazil have discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, as the first Brazilian Ambassador with residence in Cambodia paid a courtesy call on a senior Cambodian official.

On the morning of July 28, H.E. Vongsey Vissoth, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, received H.E. Vivian Loss Sanmartin, the first Brazilian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Deputy Prime Minister warmly welcomed the ambassador and expressed high appreciation for the progress in bilateral relations. Ambassador Sanmartin expressed her commitment to exploring potential sectors for cooperation and sharing Brazil's best practices in agriculture, food processing, vocational training, global health programmes, social assistance, and digital governance.

Both sides discussed opportunities to boost tourism and attract more Brazilian visitors to Cambodia through promotion and flight connectivity. They also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnership and expanding cooperation across all sectors.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that while Cambodia and Brazil are geographically distant, their relations continue to grow closer, with bilateral trade increasing year by year. He emphasised that Brazil, as a major BRICS member and ASEAN sectoral dialogue partner, holds significant potential for deeper cooperation with Cambodia in politics, trade, investment, agriculture, digitalisation, skills development, and tourism.
