Three Indian Men Tortured in Pattaya After Being Lured by Fake Tour Package

PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 – Three Indian men were tortured for a week in Pattaya, Thailand, by a gang of four Pakistani nationals and one Indian man who demanded a combined ransom of approximately Rs 68.4 lakh (2.4 million baht) from their families, according to a report by NDTV.

Thai police rescued the victims, aged 23 to 26, on July 27 at a rented two-storey house on Map Tato Road in Bang Lamung district. The victims were found locked in two bedrooms with their limbs and mouths bound, and bruises on their ankles consistent with being struck by hard objects.

The victims told police they had been lured by a cheap seven-day tour package to Thailand for about Rs 1.99 lakh (70,000 baht) each. They arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 21 and took a taxi to Pattaya, where they were met by an Indian man on a motorcycle who drove them to the house. The gang then tied them up, beat them, hung them face down, starved them, and denied them toilet breaks while forcing them to call their families in India to demand ransom.

Police Colonel Napatpong Kositsuriyamanee, immigration chief of Chon Buri, said the victims' relatives phoned Thai police for help. The gang had used a phone number registered in Dubai to conceal their location, but police tracked them to the house. The kidnappers fled on motorcycles just before officers arrived.

The incident comes days after Thailand reinstated visa-free travel for Indian passport holders following a drop in visitor arrivals from India.
