Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn Bids Farewell to Outgoing German Ambassador

PHNOM PENH, July 31, 2026 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn has received a farewell call from outgoing German Ambassador Stefan Messerer, who has successfully completed his diplomatic mission in Cambodia.

The meeting took place on the morning of July 29, with H.E. Prak Sokhonn congratulating the ambassador on his tenure and on being conferred the Royal Order of Sahametrey, Grand Cross (Maha Serey Wathana), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Cambodia-Germany relations.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted key milestones during Ambassador Messerer's tenure, including the historic Official Visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Cambodia in 2023, the opening of Germany's Honorary Consulate in Siem Reap, the appointment of Germany's first military attaché accredited to Cambodia, and Germany's continued support for Cambodia's socio-economic development in health, culture, education, rural development, mine clearance, and people-to-people exchanges.

Both sides looked forward to celebrating the 60th anniversary of Cambodia-Germany diplomatic relations next year and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, education, agriculture, energy, and tourism. Ambassador Messerer reaffirmed Germany's strong commitment to expanding bilateral relations across all areas of mutual benefit.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn also briefed the ambassador on recent developments concerning the Cambodia-Thailand border situation.
