Cambodia and OIF Sign Five-Year Action Plan to Boost French Language Education

PHNOM PENH, August 6, 2026 – Cambodia and the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) have signed a five-year action plan to strengthen French language education, in a ceremony held in Paris on Wednesday.

Ambassador Luy David, representing Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport Hang Chuon Naron, signed the agreement with Désiré Nyaruhirira, Special Advisor to the OIF Secretary-General and Acting Representative of the OIF's Asia-Pacific office.

The action plan focuses on six key areas:

- Reviewing French language curricula for bilingual French-Khmer programmes, including first and second language tracks and science subjects taught in French;

- Revising core French language textbooks for bilingual programmes and science subjects;

- Developing the capacity of teachers in French language and French-taught science subjects to use new textbooks;

- Organising French language training through the OIF's educational platform for Cambodian teachers;

- Developing capacity-building packages in French for the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport;

- Sending volunteer French teachers to Cambodia.

The agreement reflects the shared commitment of Cambodia and the OIF to enhance French language instruction, improve teaching and learning quality, and promote quality education.
