Student Gunman Kills 6, Wounds 15 in Nonthaburi School Shooting
PHNOM PENH, August 7, 2026 – A student opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district, Nonthaburi province, on Friday morning, killing three teachers and three students and wounding 15 others, according to Thai authorities.
The shooting occurred at approximately 10:00 am. Police and emergency responders were deployed to the scene, evacuating students, teachers, and staff while securing the area. The suspected gunman, who was among the deceased, was identified as a student. Police reported that the weapon was believed to have been taken from a member of the student's family.
Fifteen injured individuals were transported to hospitals for treatment, with two reported in critical condition, according to Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack. Police reportedly found multiple rounds of ammunition in the suspect's bag, which have been seized as evidence.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who also serves as Interior Minister, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a "serious tragedy." He stated that he had received reports on the situation and ordered relevant agencies to respond immediately and ensure the injured received prompt medical care. He also emphasised the importance of tightening gun control measures, noting that the government will continue to enforce strict regulations on firearm possession and use.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area around the school until further notice and have requested that individuals refrain from sharing images, videos, or information that could interfere with police operations.
The shooting has drawn attention to previous incidents in Thailand, including a February 2026 attack in which a 17-year-old stole a police firearm and opened fire at a school in southern Thailand, and a 2023 shooting at a major Bangkok shopping mall involving a 14-year-old boy.
