Cambodia Reiterates Call for Border Solution with Thailand During ASEAN Anniversary
PHNOM PENH, August 7, 2026 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn presided over the ASEAN Flag Hoisting Ceremony at the Ministry on Friday morning to commemorate the 59th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN, while also reiterating Cambodia's call for a just and lasting solution to the border issue with Thailand.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul, distinguished heads and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions to Cambodia, and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The event marked another milestone in ASEAN's nearly six decades of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation, reflecting the bloc's shared commitment to promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity. It also reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to working closely with ASEAN Member States and External Partners to strengthen ASEAN Community-building efforts and advance a more resilient, inclusive, forward-looking, and people-centred ASEAN.
On the Cambodia-Thailand border issues, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn emphasized that only a just, peaceful, and lasting solution can enable the two peoples to live side by side in peace, stability, and shared prosperity. Cambodia continues to call for the immediate, full, and effective implementation of the Joint Statement of December 27, 2025, particularly the prompt resumption of survey and demarcation work by the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), and the return of displaced civilians to their homes and normal livelihoods without obstruction, in safety and dignity, at the earliest opportunity.
