Cambodia Makes Historic Cashew Export Breakthrough with First Direct Shipment to UK

PHNOM PENH, August 13, 2026 – Cambodia has taken a major step forward in its agricultural export ambitions, with the first-ever direct shipment of processed cashew nuts to the United Kingdom—a milestone that signals the Kingdom's growing capacity to compete in high-value international markets.
The historic consignment was delivered by HCST Investment Co., Ltd. to Whitworths, a prominent UK-based dried fruit, nut, and seed company, marking a new chapter for Cambodia's cashew sector. To commemorate the achievement, Secretary of State Samheng Bora, who also chairs the Ministry of Commerce's Export Promotion Task Force, led a delegation to Stung Treng province on August 12 to tour HCST's production facilities and observe the export supply chain in action.
The partnership represents more than a single transaction—it reflects the government's sustained push to transform the agricultural sector from raw commodity production to value-added processing. The collaboration with Whitworths has prompted HCST to elevate its production standards, aligning with stringent international quality and food safety regulations.
The success was made possible through a combination of government facilitation, private sector initiative, and technical assistance from international partners. The UK Government, through the British Embassy and the UK Trade Partnership (UKTP) program, along with the European Union and Germany through the Export Lab - EU German GATE project, provided crucial support to strengthen HCST's export capabilities.
Key milestones in the journey include initial discussions between the Ministry of Commerce and Whitworths in October 2024, a visit by Whitworths representatives to Cambodia in April 2025, and a Cambodian trade delegation mission to the UK in December 2025 that helped finalise the purchase orders.
The Ministry of Commerce has reaffirmed its commitment to building on this momentum, pledging to continue facilitating market linkages and supporting Cambodian enterprises in meeting international standards. The achievement underscores Cambodia's potential to become a competitive player in the global cashew market, creating new opportunities for farmers and producers across the Kingdom.
