Illegal Foreign Workers Deported as Cambodia Tightens Immigration Enforcement
PHNOM PENH, August 17, 2026 – Cambodian authorities have deported 15 Vietnamese nationals found to be residing and working illegally in the country, as part of a broader government push to enforce immigration laws and combat transnational crime.
The deportation was carried out on Monday through the Prek Chak international border checkpoint in Kampot province, following an investigation by the General Department of Immigration. Officials confirmed that the group—comprising 10 men and five women—had been involved in drug-related activities, overstayed their visas, and lacked proper documentation, including valid passports.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha, and aligns with the government's stated policy of preventing Cambodia's territory from being used for illegal activities.
In a previous directive, Prime Minister Hun Manet made clear that Cambodia would not tolerate criminals or unlawful foreigners using the country as a base. Authorities have pledged to continue their crackdown on immigration violations, dismantle criminal networks, and ensure that victims of exploitation are safely returned to their home countries.
