Thailand Accuses Cambodian Forces of Landmine Incident Near Chong An Ma

PHNOM PENH, August 17, 2026 – The Thai Army has accused Cambodian forces of crossing the border and establishing a base near Chong An Ma in Ubon Ratchathani province, an incident that later resulted in a Thai soldier being injured by a landmine, according to Khaosod English.

Army spokesperson Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree alleged that Thai troops had pushed the Cambodian forces out and subsequently restricted access to the area, which he described as dangerous due to landmines.

A Thai soldier was injured on Monday after stepping on a landmine during clearance operations. He suffered injuries to his right ankle and hand but is reported to be conscious and in stable condition. He was taken to Sunpasitthiprasong Army Hospital for treatment.

The Cambodian government has not yet responded to the accusation.
