5th Cambodia Banking Conference Opens in Phnom Penh, Strengthening Financial Integrity and Stability

PHNOM PENH, August 19, 2026 – The Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) has opened the 5th Cambodia Banking Conference in Phnom Penh, bringing together industry leaders, regulators, and experts to discuss the future of the country's financial sector under the theme "Preserving Stability, Strengthening Financial Integrity, Trust and Confidence in the Banking System."

The two-day event, held on August 19–20 at the Sokha Hotel Phnom Penh, features keynote addresses from National Bank of Cambodia Governor Dr. Chea Serey and ABC Chairman Rath Sophoan, alongside senior banking leaders, regulators, development partners, and expert speakers from across the ASEAN region.
Key topics on the agenda include banking sector stability, credit quality, debt resolution, financial integrity, AML/CFT and sanctions compliance, consumer protection, the role of the Financial Consumer Protection Centre (FCPC), public trust, cross-border payments, and digital security.
The conference comes at a time when Cambodia's banking and financial sector continues to play a critical role in driving national economic growth, particularly through the promotion of digital payments and financial inclusion.
Discussions are expected to produce a set of 2027 Banking Industry Priorities, outlining concrete actions for members, ABC committees, and relevant partners to strengthen financial integrity, consumer protection, and operational resilience. The conference also provides a platform for banks to share insights on managing credit risk amid property-market adjustments, enhancing AML/CFT frameworks, and advancing sustainable finance through the application of Cambodia's Sustainable Finance Taxonomy.
Participants are also exploring practical tools for translating policy into bankable transactions, including green loans, sustainability-linked instruments, and risk-sharing mechanisms such as credit guarantees and blended finance. The event highlights the sector's collective effort to build a more resilient, inclusive, and trusted financial system that supports Cambodia's long-term economic development.
