UK Royal Navy Patrol Vessel Makes Third Visit to Cambodia, Boosting Bilateral Defence Ties

PHNOM PENH, August 20, 2026 – The Royal Navy’s offshore patrol vessel HMS Tamar has arrived at Ream Naval Base in Preah Sihanouk province for an eight-day visit, underscoring the growing defence relationship between the United Kingdom and Cambodia.

Rear Admiral In Sokhemra, Deputy Commander of Ream Naval Base, received Commander Tom Lindsey RN and the ship’s crew during an official welcome ceremony at Pier 2. The visit is scheduled from August 20 to 27.

This marks the third time a British naval vessel has visited Cambodia since 2023. According to the British Embassy in Phnom Penh, the visit will include joint training exercises with the Royal Cambodian Navy, professional exchanges, and discussions on maritime security cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.

The HMS Tamar is a 2,000-tonne offshore patrol vessel measuring 90 metres in length and capable of speeds up to 24 knots. Its presence reflects the UK’s continued commitment to engaging with Southeast Asian partners and supporting regional stability.
