Cambodia Finalizes Strategic Roadmap for National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security

PHNOM PENH, August 21, 2026 – The Ministry of Women's Affairs has led a final consultation workshop to validate the strategic roadmap for Cambodia's National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (NAP-WPS), held on August 20 at the Cambodiana Hotel.
The workshop was organized in cooperation with The Asia Foundation and UN Women, with participation from line ministries, institutions, and development partners. The consultation aimed to gather final inputs, ensure policy coherence, and strengthen national ownership of the draft NAP-WPS and its subsequent implementation.
Minister of Women's Affairs Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi emphasized that research shows the meaningful participation of women during crises and in conflict resolution contributes to lasting peace and security. She reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda at both regional and national levels, promoting peacebuilding, security, resilience, and sustainable development.
The workshop brought together political and technical stakeholders to finalize the strategic roadmap, ensuring that the NAP-WPS responds to both traditional and non-traditional security challenges while reflecting Cambodia's national context and priorities.
Five key priority areas were identified:
1. Women in Defence, Security, Peacekeeping Operations, and International Diplomacy
2. Women, Trafficking in Persons, and Transnational Crime
3. Women in the Media and Digital Security
4. Women in Climate and Disaster Security
5. Women in Economic Security and Human Security
