Lao Ambassador Vows to Deepen Cambodia–Laos Friendship and Cooperation

Phnom Penh, March 24, 2026 — The newly appointed Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Cambodia, H.E. Sonexay Vannaxay, has reaffirmed his strong commitment to further enhancing the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Laos.

The remarks were made during a courtesy call and the presentation of his credentials to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace on March 24, according to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thyrith.

During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen extended a warm welcome to the Lao ambassador and congratulated him on his new role. He noted that the ambassador’s swift arrival in Phnom Penh reflects the importance that Laos places on maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations with Cambodia.

H.E. Sonexay Vannaxay highlighted the close and enduring ties between the two neighboring countries, describing Cambodia and Laos as comprehensive strategic partners with a tradition of mutual support and solidarity.

He further noted that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, pledging to work actively to promote and expand cooperation in the years ahead.

The ambassador also expressed gratitude to the Royal Government and people of Cambodia for their continued assistance to Laos, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Cambodia provided vaccines and technical support.

In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his satisfaction with the ambassador’s remarks, emphasizing the deep-rooted friendship and shared history between Cambodia and Laos.

He encouraged both sides to continue broadening cooperation, especially in trade, economic development, and investment, as key pillars to further strengthen their political and diplomatic ties.
