Five Provinces to Be Transformed into Industrial and Agro-Industrial Hubs Over Next 20 Years, Said PM

Phnom Penh, March 27, 2026 — Svay Rieng, Kampong Thom, Mondulkiri, Pursat, and Kampot provinces is expected to enhance public health, support local economic activity, and strengthen the foundation for long-term national development.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has outlined a long-term vision to develop Svay Rieng and other eastern provinces into high-potential industrial and agro-industrial hubs over the next two decades. The plan was highlighted by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet during the inauguration of the Andong Tasei Water Treatment Plant in Svay Rieng and the groundbreaking ceremony for expanded clean water infrastructure across five provinces on March 26.

He emphasized that infrastructure development, particularly access to clean water, plays a crucial role in improving living standards while creating favorable conditions for investment. The Prime Minister noted ongoing cooperation between Cambodia and Japan in supporting infrastructure projects, including water supply systems that benefit local communities.

Svay Rieng, in particular, was described as a province with strong economic potential, especially in agriculture, making it suitable for further development in agro-industry and industrial sectors. The government aims to attract investment in factories and enterprises while building a skilled workforce to support these industries.

The expanded clean water infrastructure initiative is expected to contribute not only to public health and environmental protection but also to broader economic development by supporting communities and enabling industrial and artisanal activities.
