Cambodia Raises Concern Over Alleged Thai Military Encroachment in Pursat

Pursat, March 27, 2026 — H.E Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, led a diplomatic delegation on Friday to inspect an area in western Cambodia that authorities say has been illegally occupied by Thai armed forces.

The visit took place in Thmor Da Commune, Veal Veng District, Pursat Province, where Cambodian officials reported that Thai troops have reinforced their presence by installing shipping containers and barbed wire to block access to the contested zone.

The delegation included members of the diplomatic corps as well as representatives from United Nations agencies and international organizations accredited to Cambodia, signaling Phnom Penh’s effort to draw international attention to the situation.

During the visit, the delegation also traveled to a temporary shelter at Hun Sen Promaoy High School in Promaoy Commune, where 76 displaced families have taken refuge following the tensions. Essential food supplies and humanitarian assistance were distributed to support those affected by the situation.

Speaking at the site, Prak Sokhonn reaffirmed that the Royal Government of Cambodia remains committed to resolving border disputes through peaceful means. He emphasized adherence to international law, existing bilateral agreements, and the outcomes of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee.

Cambodian authorities reiterated their position that dialogue and cooperation remain the preferred path forward, despite growing concerns over developments along the border.
