Cambodia Welcomes Singapore Officers to Join ASEAN Observer Mission

Phnom Penh, March 27, 2026 — Cambodia has welcomed two military officers from Singapore to join the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), reinforcing regional efforts to monitor and ensure the implementation of ceasefire measures along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

According to a press release issued by Maly Socheata, Major Wong Zheng Ernest and Warrant Officer Shashi Kumar arrived at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport at 4:00 PM on March 27. They were warmly received by the Cambodian Coordination Group (CLG) and will join the ASEAN Observer Team led by the Philippines in its capacity as ASEAN Chair.

The ASEAN Observer Team is mandated to observe, verify, and ensure the effective implementation of commitments outlined in the Joint Statement and related agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.

Cambodia continues to provide full support to the AOT, emphasizing the need to strengthen its role and mandate. Officials noted that the presence of international observers plays a crucial role in promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust in the peace process.

The Royal Government of Cambodia reaffirmed its firm commitment to fully respect and implement the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee, along with the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand and other relevant agreements.

These efforts aim to ensure a swift return to normalcy in affected areas while maintaining long-term peace and stability along the border.

The Ministry of National Defence also informed the public and media of these developments, underscoring Cambodia’s continued commitment to peaceful resolution and regional cooperation.
