“Generation Z, Generation Peace?”: Cambodia Spotlights Youth Role at Francophonie Day Event

Phnom Penh — Cambodia placed youth at the forefront of its Francophonie celebrations as Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, hosted a cocktail reception on March 31, 2026, at Rosewood Phnom Penh.

Held under the theme “Generation Z, Generation Peace? Contributions of Youth for a More Peaceful World,” the event gathered around 200 distinguished guests, including leaders from legislative bodies, ministries and institutions of the Royal Government, diplomatic missions, and representatives from both public and private sectors within the Francophonie community. The French Ambassador to Cambodia co-presided over the event.

The reception marked the anniversary of the founding of the International Organisation of La Francophonie on March 20, 1970, in Niamey, Niger, highlighting the enduring role of the Francophone community in promoting peace, cooperation, and cultural exchange.

As Cambodia prepares to host the 20th Francophonie Summit later this year, the event underscored the country’s commitment to elevating youth voices in advancing peace and sustainable development under the upcoming summit’s theme, “Reinvesting in Peace for Shared Prosperity and Lasting Stability.”
