Cambodia Deports 1,528 Foreign Nationals in Crackdown on Illegal Activities and Online Scams

Phnom Penh — Cambodian authorities have deported a total of 1,528 foreign nationals, including 232 women, between March 24 and 31, 2026, as part of an intensified crackdown on illegal activities, according to the General Department of Immigration.

The operation was carried out under the directive of Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and led by Sok Veasna, Director General of Immigration.

Authorities said the deportees came from 23 nationalities, including China, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and several African countries.

Among them, 327 Chinese nationals (20 women) were linked to online scam operations and were deported via special flights through Techo International Airport. Other individuals were removed through both Techo International Airport and Siem Reap Angkor International Airport.

The deportations were tied to a range of offenses, including illegal entry, use of forged documents, overstaying without valid passports, extortion, fake visas (including fraudulent QR codes), online scams, and illegal employment within Cambodia.

Officials emphasized that the move reflects the government’s firm enforcement of the law and ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime, ensure public safety, and dismantle transnational criminal networks. Authorities also noted efforts to rescue victims who had been trafficked or deceived into participating in online scam operations, allowing them to safely return to their home countries.
